It’s usually not practical to dig up existing lawns, shrubs and trees. Spread Genesis Biochar over the ground and thoroughly rake it in. For long term results, we recommend that you reapply Genesis Biochar each year for several years.
For new lawns use a mixture of 20% to 50% Genesis Biochar and compost and/or other amendments. Let the mixture set for as long as is practical but a minimum of three days. This will so it has time to stabilize. If possible, keep the mix wet. This will allow the amendments time to populate or “charge up” the Genesis Biochar. Mix it into the soil to a depth below the root zone. Water it well each day for a few days. An even more effective technique is to soak your Genesis Biochar in compost tea or some other nutrient and microbial rich liquid amendments. This technique is referred to as inoculation. Inoculation charges up the Genesis BioChar thus accelerating the availability of the nutrient and microbial rich amendments to the plants. Inoculated Genesis Biochar can be mixed with compost, other organic materials. Let the mixture set a minimum of three days so it has time to stabilize. Genesis Biochar can be mixed directly into the soil at a 5% to10% ratio. You will see better results if you mix it to a depth below the root zone. Make sure to water it well each day for a few days. Let the biochar sit for about a week and then apply grass seed. Gently rake and turn the seed into the soil so that it is covered. Watering and additional coverage with straw are determined by the grass seed, the amount of rain you think you are going to get and the number of birds you think might eat up the seed before it sprouts. Follow your grass seed provider’s instructions for best results.
